...playing in the cafe's, glenn phillips and a bunch of connected strangers...

Pic from Songwriters Showcase-Altadena, CA May 16, 2007

Last week I got a chance to play in some cafe's and it was quite an experience...I really like the songwriter showcase in Altadena...it has a nice stage and great sound plus the guy who hosts it is really cool...I think I am going to be a regular there every month...which will force me to write at least 2 new songs a month which is good manageable challenge for me-maybe I will post them up on myspace for all to hear...I hope it pushes me to write more songs about life, I am leaning to more of those type of songs during this season of my life...and its cool to hear other songwriters sing their songs ...and see how everybody interweaves lyrics and music together to create a song to share...and also how each songwriter delivers their songs..it can be quite humorus...its been a long time since I played in these types of venues and its great to have the opporunity/time to play in them again...hopefully I can find something cool like this in Redondo...

I hope to post more pics up from my new place and yes I am DEF getting a surf board, I can go to the beach every day and I see the surfers catching waves, its great...and it is such a God send I feel like I am living in Chicago with out the cold wind...cause in chicago I lived in a highrise overlooking Lake michigan which was so big it looked like an ocean, and it inspired songs for me to write...in Cali its sort of the same thing...but for me as with every new place I move to I am still trying to find my writing area/time but last night was great I was able to worship through song with words on my heart on the loft in my apartment staring at the blue sea... and the acoustics in the apartment are great...my spirit and sound resonated sweetly through out the room...I can't wait to record some songs next week...speaking of music I got a chance to see Glenn Phillips an amazing singer songwriter at this cool place in LA called Largo...Genn Phillips was the lead singer from a band in the 90's called "Toad the Wet Sproket" and they are famous for the song" Walk on the Water"...I was amazed though at his chord progressions and really cool lyrics and controlled vocals...I wasn't a fan of the cuss words but none of the songs had them but overall a great concert and it was inspiring...I am going back to Largo in June to see another songwriter named ari hest..good stuff and I hope to play there one day...its a great venue and concept...100% of the door cost goes to the musician..people who see the show have a sit down dinner first and then when everyone is finished the show begins cool, intimate, laid back..i likes:)

in other news I found a small group (happen to be guys night) last night..it was pretty cool..mostly everyone is not from cali or moved there a few months ago from alabama, dallas, new york and maryland...i found that quite amusing which I think created an instant bond between us...plus they are into biking surfing and hanging out on the beach...man I am going to get so brown this year...its a small group at a church called mosaic( www.mosaic.org) ..I have been to their services and they are pretty cool plus I think Erwin Mcmanus is a really good sincere/real preacher...yay!!! a three day weekend:)...more newz to come...

blessings,
DG
